How Sad

Did you notice the last sentence in this post. How sad for something to think they have to inform others that she has already considered ADD? Are you saying that because you know several peas will suggest that as a problem and you just don't want to go there, or because you really truly considered that she might have ADD?

In either case, it's just sad that ADD/AIDED and autism comes up so quickly and so often these days. Why does it never seem to occur to people that the child could just be a bad kid? It seems like these days people find it to be such a hard concept to grasp that some kids just aren't parented the way they should. There has to be some medical reasoning behind it. Get a clue people. Kids these days are bad because you don't know how to be a good parent.

I actually agree with you blogger. Real parenting just ain't for cowards.

Now this is the kind of juicy post we need. If you spent less time on the computer your kid wouldn't be such a jackass.

Hey! Your parents could have used the same advice you handed out! :D

Good job, blogger! You may be on your way to a great self analysis!

:D

I don't disagree with you. With some issues, I think there is a lot of over medication and rampant diagnosis. I don't blame parents for not wanting to medicate their child right away.

I think people need to realize that parenting is not a static state and that you may need to readdress what you're doing.

I also agree with what you said Blogger.

It's easier to dope your kid up than put more energy into your parenting.

Next, someone will advise her that she can get an SSI check because of her child's "disability". She's only 5. Maybe she wasn't ready for kindergarten! But I guess that wouldn't look good to the other peas to admit your child wasn't "ready" for kindergarten. Get those kiddies shoved out the doors ladies!

Did you actually put Autism in your entry? Autism has nothing to do with how you parent. It is neurological disorder. I guess diabetes is caused by bad parenting too?

Oh, thank god - I thought I was the only one that wondered if every kid on the boards was "on the spectrum". Gag. Soon all kids will be diagnosed with some special nonsense . . . and we'll all have "special guys". Oy.

Spectrum my ass. Sometimes kids just don't want to make eye contact. Really. Honest.

At 6:28 PM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Yes that is all Austism is, not wanting to make eye contact. Ignorance is a wonderful thing isn't it? Makes your life easier I bet.

No one said that's all it is. You're a little too defensive. Why are mothers of "special guys" always ready to attack a person who mentions the word?

At 6:44 PM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Who says I am a mom? Maybe I am a teacher. And what do you call this?

I don't about her/him/it, but that looked like an attack to me.

Why are so many more kids diagnosed as autistic now? Now that we have a lable, got to slap it on someone. Any bad kid or weird kid is now autistic. or ADD.

Yeah, when you were a kid they called it being an asshole. I see you're still displaying the same characteristics.

OH cool I can be a corny ass anon poster, too!!

Kids in 2000-2007's are diagnosed autism or development disorder and back in the 90's it was ADHD. I am predicting 2008 for a few years will be anxiety disorders. It is so easy to label kids than be a parent and put some boundaries on them! It gets so old!

We are having issues with an autistic child at school. She refused to bathe (called mom, she says "well, she doesn't like to take a bath". She picks her nose and then bites her fingernails. The other kids in the class are gagging, but we have to keep reminding ourselves she's "special". Her education is more important than the other 20 kids who can't concentrate because of the smell and visual effects.

At 9:00 PM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Right on with this one. I was talking to a friend and we were wondering if there are any normal kids anymore. Between kids needing IEPS because of "behavioral problems" that could be cleared up by more attentive parenting and parents demanding extra credit, is no one an average student? I feel bad for teachers who must want to say, "You're child is just a C student. He's an every day, run-of-the-mill person."

When did a C grade or average or normal become bad?

At 9:07 PM, Blogger Jamie said...

Hey, man, don't diss anxiety disorder. It sucks! Trust me. As far as Autism being over diagnosed, I'm not sure.

Then the school is failing this child. We would have already arranged to have a home visit done regularly until this problem was solved. That is why your school is getting paid extra for that child.

If the parents are clueless then someone needs to step up. That means the school calls in a home visit as many times as it takes. Now that the school knows about the problem then it falls on them to come to that poor girl's rescue. It is not her fault that she ended up with the parent she has.

If I was that girl's teacher it would have already been taken care of and she would no longer be suffering. And neither would the other children.

I also think that Autism and ADD/ADHD are overused terms for diagnosing bad behavior in children, esp boys. There are some cases where that might be true, but I suspect it is far less prevalent than it is being made out to be.

This will be my opinion till there is some kind of diagnostic test that involves bloodwork, x-ray, CT,..etc.

****

The parent isn't clueless. She knows her rights. She dictates every IEP meeting (she is gifted/autistic). The girl now has an advocate and meetings once weekly. She has been referred to the school nurse for the body odor, given free samples of deoderant. The mother was PISSED at that! One of her new things is to wear a coat to class and slowly unzip it letting the smell seep out slowly (while grinning.) So how exactly is the school failing her!?!?

Poster my advise to you is to keep your mouth shut about things you are uneducated on.

Read this site and get yourself some education.

SO UNTRUE !!!!! It most certainly can be caused by diet----it is a proven fact that obese people are at a HUGE risk for developing diabetes. How do you think most obese people get that way --- by eating CRAP. Once they lose the weight, their chance of diabetes drops again. Why do you think CHILDHOOD diabetes is so much on the rise----because childhood OBESITY is everywhere you look.

Feed your kids healthy foods, make them play outside instead of sitting in front of a tv and I'm betting their chances of getting diabetes is a whole lot less. Yes, some kids develop it no matter what, but to say some of it isn't caused by diet is pure bullcrap !!!!!

And yes, ADD and autism are WAY over diagnosed right now, when a lot of cases are just BAD PARENTING and using labels as an excuse. I have a nephew to prove it. Ain't nothing wrong with him that a new mother couldn't cure. Poor kid is so messed up and the labels are NOT helping him---they're only making things worse and making him believe that he's not responsible for his actions and that he "can't help it". SO NOT TRUE and it drives me batty.

You are an ignorant dumb ass. If you feed your kids too much junk food and shit, they have a higher risk. Educate yourself before you wreck youself.

What worries me is that the OP is talking about being a teacher and she can't even handle her own child. So not only is she going to teach other's children, she will be working and spending less time with her own child that already has some problems.
