No, it's a common JOKE, based on Seanna's amazing memory.
It is not a joke. Seanna referred keeping track of people long before 2 Peas even existed. I could probably drag up a few of the 46 "Tankeeters" who remember comments Seanna made way back on the "TANS" listserver (dating some where from 1996 to 2000.)
She also said at that time that she kept every email that she got because they came in handy. She would tell us that she had to go to her old computer to look things up and get back to us with an answer.
I have no doubt that Seanna has an excellent memory but she has told many people about the fact that she collects info. It isn't a secret and it isn't a joke.

Maybe it's not actually a spreadsheet. Maybe it's just an elaborately organized file of e-mails and thread links that go back for years. Or a database. Or word files. Whatever it is, she does keep careful track and she is able to pull up things very quickly from long, long ago.
Everybody is free to make whatever conclusions they want as to the motivations for that behavior, but I have been here too long and seen too much (both on the board and behind the scenes) to ever believe that behavior doesn't exist.

When I had made the statement, I made another post apologizing if I was wrong. It was deleted.
As my apologies during the day were also deleted, I emailed the webmaster to find out what was going on and received notice that it was not sincere enough.
Pretty weird stuff.
Then I received a copy of that email again on Christmas day supposedly from Seanna's email. She says it didn't come from her though.
Yup, I was a pleaser back in the day. It made me grow up though, stand on my own two feet. I went back to work shortly after that and have had to stand up to bigger, real life foes (like meth users and thieves with weapons).
Weird to see that on here though!

I have an acquaintance that is getting ready to adopt a second child. This person has no money. I mean, she doesn't work and her dh only makes about $40-$45. They seriously cannot afford this child. She is always begging for clothes, toys, etc. for him and is constantly complaining about money. The only reason they adopted the first is because they were given the money (yeah, you heard me right). Now, the same person is willing to give them another $30K to adopt another. They live in a two bedroom house.
I have the opportunity to let the agency know that they really don't need this second child. Should I do it?

I'm really struggling with this as I think they have their hands full with one, financially. Her DH doesn't even have a high school diploma or GED. He's in construction. I feel so afraid for the one child they have. They will never be able to afford college for the kid, much less two. I don't want to be a dream smusher, but they really, really can't even afford one, much less two. They, and the folks giving them the cash, seem to be of the opinion that "God will provide" and "love is all you need". And I'm just too realistic to rely on it so much.

the people giving them the money for the adoption, are just giving them the adoption money. Not money for clothes, toys, birthdays, a bigger house, medical care, etc.....

I would take the oppurtunity to inform the agency. You will save the second child from a lifetime of not having what they need. You would also save the first child from having to share stuff that they don't have enough of in the first place.

Claimed the adoption costs on their taxes. I wanted to say to her...."Ummm.....dumbass. Talk about a red flag. You only made $45,000 last year. And you're telling the IRS you spent $35,000 on an adoption. Have you never heard of an audit??". So, my guess is that deduction was claimed by two people. Maybe I should call the IRS too. ;)

The agency is well aware of their financial situation. Going through adoption is like a very detailed prostate exam. It is none of your business to inform the agency of anything. A 2 bedroom house is plenty and he makes more than the poverty level. I believe $50,000 is average for a family of 4 in America so I don't see what your problem is.

Also, he makes right AT the poverty level in this state. IMO, if you are at the poverty level as determined by the state, you don't have any business adopting an additional child.

I grew up poor and ended up at a hoity-toity college and then being rather comfortable myself in life. Let me tell you - money isn't everything. Except for in a few rare cases, I see a lot more love and close families among my friends/family who are struggling, working-class people than I EVER do in the families I have come to know these days...they put on a good front, but behind the scenes is a lot of distance, coldness, and phoniness.
I'd place a child in a loving, fun, working-class, struggling home before I'd place one in a cold, fake wealthy one any day of the week.
