I left about the same time as she did and probably for the same reasons. When she saw me posting at peas she peamailed me to say hi and always replies to my posts there too.

I'm not sure how well-liked Mely actually is. I think she has a small group of friends on LM and 2Peas who she liked, but I'm sure the rest of the board just cringes when she posts. I think she feels that people are targeting her and her friends and she likes to play the part of the tough girl. The thing is is that it probably turns more people off than the respect it earns. I'm sure if she just acted NORMAL, more people would like her.

Mely probably left for the same reason that I left, too. There is a lot of behind the scenes drama. Unfortunately, once you get close to mods, DT members, or Jackie's friends, you start learning stuff you would have best never known. There is definitely favoritism on that board in how people are treated. The whole thing disgusted me to the point that I had to leave and I haven't been back since. It's been wonderful knowing that I didn't have to have that BS in my life.

I totally agree with this! I worked after I got my Master's Degree for 9 years then decided to be a SAHM. DH still works and makes well above average. When we pulled in two incomes, DH and I were Upper Middle Class pulling in $165k/year combined. My salary as a teacher, now, is hardly missed.
We had our house built from specs. We've even remodeled it even though it is less than 6 years old. It's 4000 sq.ft. and has a 20ft.by15ft. deck with hot tub. Our furniture is top of the line. Our interior is top of the line. Nothing cheap or crappy in this house!
We have all the toys! Including a 60 inch widescreen TV, a 42 inch Plasma TV, xboxes, DVDs, built in home movie theatre in our basement, pool table, wet bar, and on and on and on...
We own three cars--all paid for.
We have ZERO credit car debt! I mean ZERO. Not a dime owed.
We vacation every other year to Hawaii, Mexico, etc...and winter in Vail, Brekenridge, Keystone and Copper Mountain.
I'm a SAHM. I boast a 2.5 ct. ring on my hand...set in pt. Paid for!
Don't think for a second, that we're suffering here...on my dh's poor sole income.

I am "old money" and I can tell you a few things.
1) Most women in my circle, who also come from "old money" aren't educated. They didn't feel the need to educate themselves because they rely on generations of money to support. The are as deep as a 12 foot hole! (If they do go get a degree, its a bull shit degree like Art History);
2) I wanted to change that! By me going to school to get a degree and a post graduate degree, I broke a generations old tradition in my family for women--I got an education!
3) I chose to teach to give back to others, sharing my knowledge with them. I teach in a less fortunate school district for that reason. While I don't NEED the money, I do it because it allows me to share something with others...and, I like kids!

Also, some people have nice things and a lot of "toys", nice clothes, shoes, bags, etc... because they enjoy it. Some people like to look nice, have different tastes in clothes and whatnot, and so buy those things not because they want to Show Off, but because they like them and CAN! You can't take it with you? Right.

I dress nicely because I've always dressed nicely. I like certain kinds of clothes and dislike others. I wear clothes from Nordstroms because I like them, can afford them and guess what? My dh likes them too.
I like to look nice for myself and my dh. If I subscribe to many of the opinons here about SAHMs, I shouldn't get my hair done, my nails done, or buy nice clothes because I don't go anywhere and therefore, don't deserve to spend money on myself. By doing this then, you'de have others think all SAHMs should be in sweat pants looking disgusting! How would YOUR husband like you then?

I am another SAHM who isn't in debt. We have one house payment and one car payment and that is it. We have a nice house with 2 acres and two cars, one paid for. We have two four wheelers, 3 dirt bikes, a newer travel trailer, a river boat and don't owe on any of it but the house and one vehicle. I don't post or brag on the board. I think SAHM's are getting a bad rap from the ones who NEED to be working. They are always whining about something...their debt!
